The Relationship Between Science, Technology, and Society

Science and technology is the best thing society could ever ask for. Since the industrial revolution in the 18th century science has been in progress. Some sectors that have been boosted by science and technology are energy, physical sciences, information and communication. The society has greatly gained with the invention of technology.

Infrastructure in the society has grown with the help of science and technology. Modes of transport like electronic railway lines were realized and these actually benefited the society by offering them a better means of transport. In the past, almost everything was analog but thanks to the science and technology we are now being digitalized by the day. The invention of the telephone and radio services has broadened human communication.

Without society then there would be no science and technology and that is why the invention of certain tools and equipment have helped achieve big things. Society can not do without the industries we have today. The society needs science and technology. The creation of computers is work of art by individuals was a milestone that would come a long way in helping the society. A computer helps us to leverage ourselves by gaining valuable information that we can use to enrich our lives. The impact of science and technology can seriously be recognized. Many people around the world take for example scholars in colleges and universities have taken the lead examining the relationship between science and technology.

The evaluation of this relationship has emerged as an important area of research. Public interest groups and academic organizations throughout the world are recognizing the importance of STS. The reason is that people need to recognize that there are people who are affected by the science and technology. Controversies such as modified foods, stem cell research are the issues that have brought policy makers and scientists together to have a way forward on this.

Science and technology has actually largely contributed to the vision of man about himself. Science has been modified the opinion about the origin of man and place of origin too. Through the results of scientific discoveries the perception of man about his behavior and his place of origin has been modified diversly. Experiments in science today are in one way or another affecting the society.Take for example the experiment on cloning a human being. The experiment brought a lot of controversy since the society was skeptical about it.

How is science and technology related to society: The developing world has a long tradition of participatory action research, popular education and community organization joining up to solve some science and technology issues that affect the society. How is science and technology related to the society is something that is calling even for the government intervention. Science and technology related issues are actually been discussed worldwide today. Progress in this has resulted to the ability to produce diverse types of material items. Answering the question how science and technology is related to society.

Social Implications of the Internet

The Internet is a critically important research site for sociologists testing theories of technology diffusion and media effects, particularly because it is a medium uniquely capable of integrating modes of communication and forms of content. Current research tends to focus on the Internet's implications in five domains: 1) inequality (the “digital divide”); 2) community and social capital; 3) political participation; 4) organizations and other economic institutions; and 5) cultural participation and cultural diversity. A recurrent theme across domains is that the Internet tends to complement rather than displace existing media and patterns of behavior. Thus in each domain, utopian claims and dystopic warnings based on extrapolations from technical possibilities have given way to more nuanced and circumscribed understandings of how Internet use adapts to existing patterns, permits certain innovations, and reinforces particular kinds of change. Moreover, in each domain the ultimate social implications of this new technology depend on economic, legal, and policy decisions that are shaping the Internet as it becomes institutionalized. Sociologists need to study the Internet more actively and, particularly, to synthesize research findings on individual user behavior with macroscopic analyses of institutional and political-economic factors that constrain that behavior.

Computer games develop child intelligence & imagination. Do you agree ?

Computer games are one of the parts of show business today. Heroes of the most famous games are treated like film stars. Kids buy their posters and these computer made heroes are interviewed like real people.
The first serious discussion about computer games influence on children was started after publishing game called “Doom”. This full of blood and violence game caused age restrictions on games, just like it is with the movies. Psychologist think that limit between reality and imagination is very smooth and might affect children’s behavior. Kids with guns sounds impossible, but after events in Littleton and Erfurt it has a new meaning. Obviously we can not hold computer games editors responsible for every youth manifestation of violence. The age restrictions of computer games are not obeyed. No matter what kind of game kids want to buy, they don’t need any ID because they won’t be asked for it.
On the other side there are some educational computer games that develop intelligence and imagination. The strategic games learn tactical planning. Adventure games extend imagination. There are lot of games for younger children that teach mathematic or foreign languages. Three dimensional games develop kid’s mind’s eye. In recent years computer games are used in school to aid regular education by “To teach and to play” motto.
Computer games are relatively new kind of entertainment so influence of it on psyche should be checked in couple years. About sixty years ago television was said by some people to be evil of the whole world and the others believed it would help with education and science. No one was right. In most cases television is watched for soap operas. I think that games won’t be something very good or very bad. It’s somewhere in the middle.
Beside all of that kids have free choice and if they want to play violence games nothing would interfere them with it.
